The vines are growing like crazy in Oregon Pinot Noir country. June and July are the most prolific growing months of the season. We are all working feverishly to keep the vines (and therefore the canopy) managed through shoot positioning and hedging. It took over a month to get through bloom, but fruit set took place over just a few days with some hot weather to push things along.
Every day on The Hill is beautiful and our guests are enjoying the views and the wine. The vineyard looks so pristine now that we have hedged. There was good fruit set, so we will be evaluating crop levels in the next week to determine how much fruit to cut off. We are still about 3 weeks behind a normal season (if there is such a thing).
Thank you John and staff for a fabulous dinner at Ruth Chris Wed. night. The foods were paired perfectly with the wines and the wait staff took great care of everyone. We met some wonderful guests who are now big fans of Youngberg Hill, both the wines and the Inn, and we look forward to having them visit us.
Jennifer is leading the competition on wine sales. Keep up the good work, Jen!
IPNC this weekend. All are invited to come up to The Hill in between the busy schedule and before or after the event.
It was a beautiful night last night atop The Hill in the Willamette Valley for dinner under the stars for the winners of The Buzz with Sheryl Stewart. Claudia Bowers and Kelly Kerbs were excellent in assisting us in hosting the event and entertaining the guests on the trip down. David Shenaut also entertained with the Sexy Sheryl mixed cocktail made with our Pinot Blanc. A good time was had by all, a great dinner, fabulous wines, including a library wine and a barrel tasting. One of the winners were back at our romantic spot where they got engaged.
The warm weather as started to help the vines push forward to finally get through bloom and onto fruit set. Fruit set looks very healthy and full. Looks right now to be a somewhat heavy crop, so we will be looking and some aggressive cropping options in a couple of weeks.
The vines have made up a few days in the growing cycle as well and are still growing like crazy. We will start hedging next week.
Another beautiful day in the Willamette Valley here on The Hill. The vines are setting fruit. The birds are singing. The sun is shinning brightly on the mountains.
Please join us for the winemaker’s dinner at Ruth Chris in Portland this coming Wednesday night at 7:30. Then come out to The Hill next weekend during the IPNC weekend.
We had a great dinner at Davis Street Tavern in Portland last night. They paired the foods perfectly with our wines. Great job, Chris! Lobster Bisque with the Pinot Blanc, artichoke salad with the gris, prawns & orecciette with the 2007 Jordan, and rack of lamb with the 2006 Jordan.
Next dinner? Ruth Chris in Portland on July 21st, next Wednesday night. Come join us for another great experience.
In the heart of Oregon Pinot Noir country, near McMinnville, the annual fund raising auction “Uncorked” was held at Methven Vineyards. This auction is put on by the McMinnville Rotary Club and benefits the Willamette Valley Cancer Center and the Virginia Garcia Medical Center. Last night was another winning cause that we particpate in, donate to, and pour our wines.
It is another beautiful day up here on The Hill. Getting a lot of vineyard work done.
Come join us at Davis Street Tavern tomorrow night for dinner and wine pairings. We will be there.
