The weather is great today and there is a lot of activity going on even though we are just waiting for the grapes to ripen. We are laying out the rows for the new planting in the Camelot Block, which will happen after harvest. There is also a crew working on the Aspen Block (two year old Pinot gris) putting in line posts for the trellises.
The fruit is looking wonderful and weather predictions are holding so things look great for a great vintage.
We had a guest spend two days with us last week doing our vineyard package, learning everything there is to know about growing grapes (ok, not everything) and hands on experience. She will be out again at harvest. This is the 11th vineyard package this summer.
We are soon approaching Harvest here in the glorious Willamett Valley. Some whites and a little Pinot noir lower down in the valley may come off next week. We lucked out this week with the hot weather not being as hot as they predicted and there are no signs of dehydration so far. As cooler temperatures are predicted going forward, maturation should slow a little. Last week Brix were at 16.5. This week in the high 18s. That should slow somewhat as we get closer and cooler. Come out to experience harvest the first couple of weeks in August. The fruit looks fabulous!
Wednesday we treated a guest to a vineyard tour including working in the vineyard. We are beginning to pre-release our 2006 vintage with excellent response. The 2006s are our best wines to date in what is proving to be one of the best, if not the best, vintage for Oregon Pinot noir. We will release the 2006s on Labor Day.
