Youngberg Hill Vineyards was established in 1989 with the first plantings of Pinot Noir. Now in our ninth season of growing these grapes in Oregon, we are excited in our progress. We started farming organically in 2003 and received sustainable certification in 2005.
As farmers and parents, we seek to leave the land in better condition for our children. Biodynamic is an extension of organic farming that treats farms as unified and individual organisms, emphasizing balancing the holistic development and interrelationship of the soil, plants, and animals as a self-nourishing system without external inputs insofar as this is possible given the loss of nutrients.
Organic grape growing is approached as a partnership with nature instead of an exploitation of the land. This takes patience, requiring more time in the vineyard. There are no short cuts or quick fixes with organic farming, but the care invested creates healthy soil, balanced grapes, and elegant wines that are expressive of place.
